A Huge Thank You to Tesco for Their Incredible Support
At Help4theHomeless, our vans are more than just vehicles — they are a lifeline. They carry clothing, food, and essential toiletries to people in London’s West End, and they help us deliver support to families in need in the Borehamwood area every week. So, when the engine in our van blew up a fortnight ago, it felt like a real setback. This was no ordinary van. This particular vehicle is food safe qualities including ambient temperature plus heated and chilled compartments — it had been generously donated to us by Tesco a few years earlier. Knowing how vital it was to our work, we reached out to Tesco for advice on sourcing a replacement engine. To our surprise, Tesco didn’t just give us advice. They arranged to have the van collected and taken to their fleet workshop, where their mechanics could give it a full check. After a week, the news came through: repairing the van just wasn’t financially viable. As you can imagine, as a charity, this was the last thing we wanted to hear. A van is central to our mission, and the thought of being without one was daunting. But then came the moment we’ll never forget. Tesco told us they would be donating a replacement van to the charity! Not only was it of similar age to our old one, but this van had done only half the mileage. And the generosity didn’t stop there — when our CEO Lloyd Gilmore and one of our volunteers, Rob Anderson, went to collect it, they discovered it had already been sign-written with our charity’s logo. We were overwhelmed. This gift means we can continue our work without interruption and reach even more people in need. From everyone at Help4theHomeless, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to Tesco for their kindness, generosity, and continued belief in our mission. True to their slogan, “every little helps” — and in this case, it helps a great deal.
