Become a Volunteer

We are a growing charity and we need more volunteers to help make that happen. You can volunteer every week or every month or fortnight. We need core volunteers and bank volunteers to keep the wheels spinning!

"I love being part of what Help 4 The Homeless do. It's sad to see so many people on the streets and it's great to be able to help them practically but also to talk with them and get to know them." - Volunteer

Good for you!

Volunteering really helps us, but it can also help you too. Volunteering is a shared and social activity, it's great for your wellbeing and for your CV and its shows you are someone who cares and then does something about it.

1

Trained and ready!

All of our volunteers need to complete a volunteer application form, have a short interview and some  induction training and will need an enhanced DBS (which we will sort for you) as we are working with vulnerable people.

2

Working as a team!

By volunteering with Help 4 The Homeless you become part of a team that works together to meet needs and change lives.

Current Volunteering Needs

Food Preparation in Borehamwood

At the moment we prepare food in home kitchens but are keen to find a premise we can use for catering and also for storage and packing.

New volunteers are supervised by trained and hygiene certificated catering leads and our volunteers provide sandwiches, food that will last a few days, hot burgers and curries etc in insulated containers and hot drinks.

If you have access to a good quality kitchen or a commercial kitchen near Borehamwood we could use, please get in touch. If you have a few hours on a Wednesday or Thursday during the day to help prepare food, please get in touch.

Admin, Marketing and Fundraising Support Volunteers

We need additional volunteers to help us with social media marketing, with fundraising event and challenge support, to develop our support base and more. Please get in touch if you would like to help.

Food Distribution Volunteers in London

We need people to travel in by shared car or on the tube to our key distribution point in Central London and to walk the streets with us, pulling trolleys and supporting and befriending people, giving out drinks and clothing and listening to the needs of our “friends on the street”.

It is about relationships as well as food and clothing and so we prefer to work with regular volunteers (at least once per month) who will learn the ropes and work in teams to help support those in need.

“I really look forward to Thursday evenings as a volunteer. It honestly is the highlight of my week. I get there most weeks and always miss it when I can’t get there” - Volunteer

Packers in Borehamwood

We need to pack the van, usually on a Tuesday evening and need volunteers who can spare 2-3 hours to help us to do that. You need to be available regularly but not necessarily every week. We are looking to start another evening delivery next year and that will mean another packing need on a Saturday or Sunday too.

Events and Challenges

We have a regular series of events and challenges to help us raise the money we need to continue our work. Check out the list below and join us if you can.
